The first step for any person in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), is to help them to learn how to become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, in relation to the situations or events that have actively triggered those negative thoughts.
The therapeutic relationship in CBT develops on a reciprocal basis, where both you and myself, will work together through a series of relaxed observations and assessments, to find solutions to the problems or difficulties you face. This enables you to reflect upon, and discover, more helpful alternatives to those negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, as they relate to your difficulties. How you think about a problem can effect how you feel emotionally and physically, so learning how to break those problems down effectively, can also alter the way you deal with them, and ultimately bringabout positive change.
Much of the ‘assessments’, involve helping you verbalise, in a relaxed manner, what you are feeling at a particular point in your life or life situation, as well as what is going on in your mind at the time. I encourage you to create ‘thought diaries’, which we continue to use during each assessment, to help you discover new alternative ways of thinking.
We also look at Problem Solving Exercises, which are necessary in giving clear direction in which the therapy is heading, and can therefore work towards chosen goals, by means of identifying problems and looking for feasible solutions which are achievable and comfortable to you.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy
Most of the assumptions we make through life are derived from childhood experiences, or from attitudes and opinions of peers or parents. We are all made aware at some point in our life, how our subconscious minds can recall deep-seated or buried information, from sometime in our lifetime, and then uses this information in the form of automatic responses, like those of anxiety or unwanted behavioural patterns.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy helps you to identify all your unwanted emotions and accompanying thoughts in a relaxed and comfortable manner. Once identified, we can then look for ways in which any of those distorted or unhelpful thoughts relate to those emotions, thus allowing you to discover new alternative ways of thinking, which are more positive and solution-focused and enable you to set clear and realistic goals. Goals with which you feel comfortable with, and inspired by.
Hypnotherapy is a very powerful, safe, and effective form of therapy: Each of us has the capabilities to control every one of our thoughts and emotions. Hypnosis makes it easier, because it enables us to communicate with the part of our mind we call the ‘subconscious’.
Working with the subconscious can be a powerful way of identifying the real meanings of a situation or event. Although a lot of our own conscious thinking can produce positive change, there are times when our deeper emotions and uncertainties cause us to build bigger defences, and through time these begin to harbour themselves deeper into our subconscious, so that we become stuck in a negative cycle of frustration, guilt, shame or fear. Unhelpful thought patterns hold us back, and unless we address this negative insecurity, we will continue to get stuck in the same loop.
Very often, people freeze an image in time and are not able to look beyond it. Being able to examine the image through hypnotherapy, helps to modify it, by projecting the image in time, or by re-evaluating the reality of the image. Working with imagery can be a wonderful release, and Cognitive Hypnotherapy allows you to make those releases comfortably and calmly.
If we focus our mind more positively in new directions, it can be incredibly energising and when we release ourselves from those defences our sense of identity is restored, we become more at peace with ourselves. It is a great way of beginning your journey. You can learn so much about yourself, your creative abilities, your aspirations, your strengths and vision for the future, and involves you accepting your weaknesses too.
By committing to change, you can channel those new positive energies into those areas you choose to focus on. This is tremendously liberating, as it allows you freedom…freedom to create and discover, to challenge and learn, and to succeed and flourish. It’s your choice…and choice is the inspired energy and creativity within you.
